Does James & James offer both wood samples and fabric swatches?

Yes, the samples collection gathers every wood finish sample and upholstery fabric swatch we offer in one place: 11 finish samples on oak, alder, white oak and black walnut, and 9 fabric swatches for our upholstered pieces. Together they let you judge color, grain and texture at home.

Why should I order a furniture sample before buying?

A sample shows how a finish or fabric looks in your own light and beside your floors, walls and rugs, which a screen can only approximate. That matters for a made-to-order table or bed that will stay in the same room for years. Your piece will share the sample's tone with its own grain.

How are James & James samples and swatches named?

Each finish sample names both the stain and the species it is applied to, such as Oat on Oak or Tobacco on Alder, because a stain looks different on each wood. Fabric swatches are named by color, including Bisque, Latte, Mink and Toffee, and each represents a fabric used on our upholstered pieces.

Can designers get complimentary sample boxes from James & James?

Yes, designers, architects and businesses in our trade program can receive complimentary sample boxes. The program is set up for professionals specifying furniture for clients and commercial spaces, and our commercial work includes offices for Microsoft, Tyson Foods, Monster Energy and Warner Music Group.

What do I do after choosing a sample?

Once you settle on a finish or fabric, select the same option on the product page of the piece you want, and it will be built to order in our Arkansas woodshop. If you are torn between two or three samples, a free 30-minute design consultation by phone or video can help you decide.
